Obituary of Audrey M Zubkoff

Audrey Zubkoff died on August 26, 2015 at the age of 89 at Morristown Medical Center. Her passing was peaceful with Seymour, her loving husband of 55 years, at her side. She is also survived by her devoted children, Nina Zubkoff and her husband, Fred Marton, of Closter, NJ; David Zubkoff and his wife, Amy Blum, of San Diego, CA; and cherished grandchildren Julianna Marton, Jacob Zubkoff, Doriane Zubkoff and Josie Zubkoff. She was predeceased by her sister, Renee Landau. Audrey was born in New York City on April 25, 1926 to the late Rachel Leah Meltzer and Benjamin M. Meltzer. She majored in art and language studies and graduated from Hunter College at the age of eighteen. She pursued her post graduate studies at Brown University. She loved art and music and foreign languages. Audrey was very fluent in French and Spanish and also had a knack for other languages as well. She was a gifted non-professional artist employing a variety of media. And she loved opera. Audrey also loved to travel and for many years lived and worked in Paris where Seymour finally found her in October of 1960. They married in New York City on December 26, 1960. Then in 1961 for a stay of several years it was off to Vietnam where Nina and David were born. Following was a few years sojourn in Spain before returning to the States and settling in Florham Park, NJ for the next forty plus years before retiring in 2010 to the continuing care retirement community Cedar Crest in Pompton Plains, NJ. Audrey had a variety of outside work experiences in addition to, after marrying, becoming a homemaker who took care of her family which included her wonderful cooking skills. Her principal work outside of her home was teaching, mostly French, Spanish and other language related skills. In New Jersey she taught at Villa Walsh Academy in Morristown, the Morris County Community College in Randolph, NJ and Madison High School. She also did translating and interpreting. Audrey was for many years a member of Temple B'nai Or in Morristown, NJ. A memorial gathering and luncheon for Audrey will take place on Sunday, October 18th, at 11:30 A.M. in the Woodland Commons Clubhouse at Cedar Crest Village, 1 Cedar Crest Village Drive, Pompton Plains, New Jersey 07444.
